Job Description: Veterinary Assistant
The veterinary assistant maintains the everyday functions of the clinic. Veterinary assistants will perform:
Front Office Duties
- Provides exceptional quality client care in both Reception and Veterinary Assistant duties
- Provides client education within the scope of each assistant's training
- Obtains signatures and consent as needed for treatments by the veterinarian, including euthanasia
- Collects and processes client payments and refunds
- Answers telephones providing information and scheduling appointments as needed
- Acts as a liason between the client and the doctor when the doctor cannot communicate directly with the client
- Inspects, maintains and stores client charts and medication logs
- Uses the computer for a variety of tasks on a daily basis.
General Clinic Duties
- Maintains an exceptional level of cleanliness throughout the clinic
- Insures all supplies and products are properly stocked and stored
- Maintains clinic equipment as appropriate
- Assists with inventory control by monitoring quantity-on-hand and expiration dates of drugs and supplies
Back End Duties
- Assists the veterinarians in patient care, treatment and surgery
- Knows their legal limitations and does not perform tasks outside the scope of the position
- Provides exceptional patient care
- Administers medications and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian and allowed by law
- Maintains boarding and hospitalized pet quarters, assuring cleanliness of enclosures and patient comfort
- Treats all patients with compassion
- Understands and performs safe, humane patient restraint to maintain the safety of oneself, one's colleagues
and the patient
- Performs basic pet care services provided by the clinic including nail trims, anal sac expressions and minor
grooming with minimal supervision
- Performs dental prophys
- Performs restraint for owner-present euthanasia
- Performs wound care, cleaning, drain maintenance and removal, suture maintenance and removal with
minimal supervision
- Sets up, exposes and develops radiographs
- Collects and analyzes lab samples at the skill level appropriate for the individual employee
- Perpetually looks to learn new tasks, improve one's skill set and perform more advanced skills
- Supervises and trains other assistants and support staff as appropriate
Job Description: Licensed Veterinary Technician
Performs all tasks described under Veterinary Assistant. In addition:
- Additional treatments and procedures as allowed by law. Examples include inducing and maintaining
anesthesia, administering immunologic agents, advanced diagnostic techniques, etc
- Pursues continuing education opportunities
- Maintains current licensure and credentials according to Washington state law
- Supervises and trains Veterinary Assistants and support staff as appropriate based on experience and skill
level
Job Description: Receptionist
The Receptionist is the primary client care professional at the front desk. The Receptionist's duties include:
- Greet clients and visitors to the clinic.
- Answer multi-line telephones and provide prompt, courteous customer service including client education and appointment scheduling
- Maintain the doctors' schedules and keep appointments running on time through efficient client care.
- Maintain accurate, thorough medical records and logbooks.
- Learn all clinic policies and recommendations and share them with clients through education.
- Provide advice for over the counter products.
- Maintain a clean and orderly reception desk and retail area.
- Prepare estimates and invoices for clients.
- Collect payment for services.
- Prepare bank deposits, cash and credit card handling.
- Assist the veterinary assistants and veterinarians as necessary with everyday clinic duties.
Job Description: Kennel Care Assistant
- Maintain an excellent level of cleanliness of patients and patient enclosures.
- Walk hospitalized dogs.
- Maintain an exceptional level of cleanliness throughout the hospital.
- Assist with animal restraint and patient procedures as needed.
- Restock supplies in the retail area and treatment areas.
