Monique has been on staff at Mercer Island
Veterinary Clinic since March, 1997. She is a Licensed Veterinary
Technician in the state of Washington, and serves as a technician as
well as the Hospital Manager for the clinic. Her special interests are
applied animal behavior of all species (particularly domestic canines
and wild animals), and
proactive preventive medical care.
Outside of the clinic, Monique enjoys teaching
classes for dogs and their owners in obedience, agility and Rally
obedience. Her group
classes are held at Seattle Agility Center. Monique also
offers private consultations in obedience and behavior modification for
dogs and cats.
Monique's pets include 4 dogs: Magick,
Lucy,
Zora, and Rye, 3 cats: Charlie, Gershwin and Ziggy, and an African Grey
parrot
named Stanley. She competes at the national level in agility and
herding
with her dogs, as well as competing in Rally and obedience. They all
enjoy spending time at the beach, hiking and
camping with her husband Bruce.
In December, 2010, Paddy left this world a poorer
place for her absence. Monique desperately misses her "heart dog," from
whom she learned so much about how to be who she is.
In April, 2008,
Monique had to say goodbye to her 16-year-old Shih Tzu, Allie, and
misses her terribly.
A clarinetist and vocalist, Monique enjoys music,
reading, crosswords, learning new things, making new friends and is
working on her first book. She is also a full-time student at
Washington State University.
